Yutaka Shobir Isa Asmara is an Indonesian-Canadian artist and writer born in Japan in 2007 and is based in Moh’kinstsis/Calgary. Their fine arts work is largely research-based, with themes that explore cultural hybridity, intimacy, and visuality. These themes come together in projects which blend disciplines, such as painting, drawing, writing, print matter, coding, and sculpture. Asmara seeks to reveal and redefine the great political and social forces affecting the communities they belong to as inherently intimate, observing—sometimes—moments where that intimacy can affect the world.
